Ah, there you are. Hello, I’m Claudsy. I’ll be your tour guide today. We’re so glad you could make it. Please come in and stay a while. As you can see, this is the foyer. It’s a bit large, for our present purposes, but we’re planning to fill it over time. When Meena and I decided to create this second home for ourselves, as writers, we wanted to have distinct rooms that served specific purposes.
And the easiest way to arrange them was in a semi-circle, radiating from this foyer. It makes navigation so much easier for our guests, don’t you think?
Follow me on a small tour of our new digs. Here on your right you’ll find The Red Door. We use this room for working in non-fiction, creative or otherwise. You’ll notice all of the reference books and the computer stations. I hope you’ll pardon the mess on the central table. We lay out our work there so that it can be organized before writing. Things can get hectic in here when we’re both working on something at the same time.
The Library is through these double doors. Talk of philosophy fills this room. Whether we’re chatting or debating various philosophies or selecting an essay to share, active thought is always present here. On occasion another debater will join us, though it’s rare and by invitation only.
As you can see, those broad French doors lead to the Conservatory. The music you hear is playing out there amongst the greenery. Our poetry is done there. We have guests who also bring poems to share. It’s a welcome space away from the bustle of prose.
The Garden flows naturally outside from the Conservatory. We like to have a least one space that’s dedicated to calm reflection and inspirational photography. Some of our friends have graced us with their photos, for which we are terribly appreciative. Small meditation niches are there, as well, where you can take guided meditation, if you choose.
Here, next to the Conservatory doors is the entrance to our Home Theater. That’s where the magic happens. We brainstorm in there; plan stories, work out problems, talk submissions. It’s a favorite pastime of ours.
The Kitchen next door is where we cook up all the fiction. It’s so conveniently located next to the Home Theatre. We can zip in here straight from a brainstorming session and begin cooking. There are so many ingredients that we have to keep our pantry well stocked. Plain dishes or fancy, they come from this room.
Out in the Garage we keep our destinations: the places we’ve been and the stories we carried away with us from those locales. This is the place where we talk about the whys and wherefores of returning to places, of visiting those countries and towns that intrigue us or have given us something to take away with us, and anything else that we don’t want to lose touch with. These aren’t travelogues, but rather bits of ourselves and how they came into being.
And there you have it, our new residence. Of course, we have our smaller, personal cabins elsewhere, but this—this is a major new undertaking for us. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay here. Please remember to return anytime you’re in the neighborhood.
If you’ll excuse me, I see another new visitor who needs the tour. Feel free to poke around, test the waters, so to speak.
