Today’s recipe will be simple, yet a bit delicate and time consuming. We’re going to work with Fiction today.
The Kitchenwill be our playground for all things Fiction, which includes
discussions of genre, along with exercises to play fiction with elements. Some of these exercises may feel more like game playing, while learning a new way to think about words, phrases, and semantics. Nuances and syntax also play a role here.
The cooks in the Kitchen, with the occasional guest chef, strive always to create an exciting and learning atmosphere, whether working with the lightest of touches–say double entendre nuance and humor–or the heavier-bodied darker recipes of thriller and suspense.
With each of the exercises, we will be offering our own examples. Many of
these we have not dealt in before. We are learning some of these genre elements for the first time as well. We will rely on our visitors to point out the flaws, the not-quite-there-yet segments so that we can correct our writing direction within that element.
