Welcome to The Conservatory. Here is where we gather to celebrate our passion for Poetry.
Poems are essential to our existence. I do not see how we can live without them.
~ Meena Rose
We need poems to further enrich our lives and grow as a people. It saddens us to see that some people are purely afraid of them or find them complicated or simply believe it is not worth their time.
We invite you to sit with us for a while as we discuss how we view poetry and how it has impacted our very existence. If a day goes by without us reading poetry, we feel impoverished as though a required piece of the day’s puzzle was found lacking.
Reading poetry is no different from listening to music or listening to a singer. It gives you the means to detach from yourself and ride the wave of experiential engagement.
We have found that poetry helps us get in touch with ourselves; paying exquisite attention to the contours of our day-to-day life. More so, it is a vehicle that has helped us explore the range of our feelings, our understanding, our compassion and our potential; both as individuals and mankind.
We write poetry for many of the same reasons; we write as an act of discovering and unveiling. We write to gain clarity and focus on that which compels us, as we peel away layers of consciousness and life experience in search of a deeper truth that propels us to the next step in our journey.
Writing poetry is no different from playing the violin in a storm. You move into your poetic zone and descend into the as-of-yet undiscovered regions of your psyche. You brave the unknown; lingering hurt, once thought resolved, loved ones who haunt us still. Dense packets of charged unprocessed emotion litter the field of thought.
At times, the poem rises up, claiming its right to be written. At other times, you have to courageously reach into the murk and write about what you get. You must not fear the manifesting emotions nor the intensity with which they grip you; you may cry, you may rage, you may laugh, and all of that is normal. You must realize that your courage to write through the emotion will be transferred to the reader, as well as your poem propels them forward in their life journey.
At The Conservatory, you will find our poetry as well as an open invitation to share yours.
