PAD Day 9 and We Deal With Those Gone

We each have those who worm their way into our hearts and souls, who take up residence in the deepest parts of us, whether we expected it or not. We each have beings whose memory or essence haunt us each day, for good or ill. At some point we find ourselves looking for those memories, mourning over them, reliving the joys, the pain, whatever we’d experienced at the time.

In most regards it doesn’t matter what the relationship with that being was. It doesn’t matter how long it took to form. All that is of consequence is the power of it, both then and now. That feeling, that remembrance and all it entails  creates today’s test prompted by PAD.

PAD Day 9 Prompt: “When he’s gone”—Use this as title, first line, or within body of poem.

Without Definition

He stands outside

My circle now,

Where once he

Centered its sphere

Of time and space,

Part of the dream

Maker of laughter

And light, always

The munchkin of Oz.

Stronger bonds than

Friendship could account,

Than lovers could find,

Than sibs ever know

Within lifetimes spent

Trailing stars and paths

Among Moon’s shadows,

Between worlds explored,

Always on my blind side.

When he’s gone

Life no longer sparkles

As richly, sun’s rays

Do not reach into forests,

And Moon paths remain

Untrod by my feet as

Once they danced among

Worlds unseen by others,

For he’s gone, outside.
